The workshop “Immigrants in Romania. Risks, opportunities and solutions for facilitating the integration process” was held at UVT, organized in collaboration with the Agency for Regional Development West – ADR West and the Prefect’s Institution – Timiș County.

📊 During the meeting, relevant results of the study “Perception of Timișoara residents regarding the social inclusion of immigrants and refugees”, conducted by UVT researchers, were presented.

The data show that the majority of Timișoara residents consider that immigrants who come to work are well integrated (over 54%), and the dominant feeling towards them is compassion (59%) and respect (26%), which indicates a predominantly positive and open attitude towards diversity.

We thank the project partners for their support and trust in UVT, namely the Prefect’s Institution – Timiș County, the General Inspectorate for Immigration, UNHCR, the National and County Employment Agency, the International Organization for Migration, companies and specialists.

In contemporary societies, the integration and well-being of persons from vulnerable groups, particularly young Roma, migrants, and refugees, have emerged as pressing concerns.

The increasing migration flows, socioeconomic disparities, and persistent discrimination need evidence-based policies to promote social inclusion and improve the quality of life for disadvantaged communities. Policies addressing the well-being of vulnerable groups need to draw from rigorous research to ensure that they are effective, inclusive, and sustainable.

This conference aimed to foster the exchange of information, experiences, innovative ideas, research results, as well as to develop policy recommendations addressed to increasing wellbeing and of social integration of youngsters in vulnerable groups, with a focus on Roma, migrants and refugees.

The conference was organized within the project „When Scars (!) Become Art”, funded by JUGEND für Europa, within the Erasmus+ Programme KA2 Strategic Partnership, contract no 2023-1-DE04-KA220-YOU-000166967.
